The first Blue Rising record. recorded by Rich Morpurgo at Midwest Audio Recording. Several of these songs were ones that Austin Mudd and I had written and played in other bands while growing up. The song, Be, was written the summer just after high school graduation. We played it in a band called The Spiral. All That Is was a song I wrote while spending time working in my Uncle Mike’s home studio in Raleigh, NC. Austin and I wrote the first version of Away From Here in high school and played it in a band called The Seventh Seal which won a talent show.
But several of these songs were fresh, original collaborations between the four of us. Align, Reach, Shatter, Undone, and Paradigm were all created in the early days of what became our current 4 piece consisting of Luke Narey, Barrett Abraham, Austin Mudd, and myself. Bones was the last song we wrote, when the record making process was almost totally finished.
Rich Morpurgo heard us play Bones at The Bluebird. He insisted we put it on the record. BUT, we had no money left to do another song. He tracked the song for free. “This song makes the record. It has to be on there guys.” So that gave us our 11 tracks, some of which are still staples of our live show to this day.
